I believe that Hamlet suffers from an Oedipal Complex and is angry that his mother married a man so soon. He is also angry that she married her father's brother nearly creating and incestuous bond between them. he is very affectionate of his mother and would have been willing to protect her. However, when she married Claudius, Hamlet was betrayed (both Hamlets) and he is angered and hurt. It is this anger that shows how much the Oedipal Complex applies to Hamlet. His affection towards his mother was so great that he was horrified by what was done to him when she married his stepfather. Hamlet wants to murder his stepfather/uncle Claudius for the reason that he married his mother and killed his real father.
